It's sometimes difficult to put Homer Sparks within a single genre. While sometimes starting with an acoustic guitar or banjo, then moving to dark synth pads or sparkly arpeggiated pop chords, he rarely likes to stay in one place. However, he is often found with an electric guitar in hand, a plethora of guitar pedals at foot, and surrounded with blinking synthesizers and drum machines. But no matter where he is, there is sincerity in his voice, melodic and shaky at times; a Conor Oberst-esque quality that is unique in his own way. Growing up in central North Carolina, moving to southern Illinois for college, then back to his home state, and out west to Santa Fe, New Mexico and Denver, Colorado, and finally settling in Raleigh, NC, Homer Sparks literally can't sit still. You feel this movement in his music: Melancholy or cinematic, but later, gritty and festive.
