I’ve always loved music, but it became even more intertwined with my life when I learned that all of my emotions and stories and versions of myself in my memories—all the different parts of myself—have individual voices that need to be heard. This was a long time coming; it took a decade of deep-rooted mental health struggles and many truly low points, and help from a lot of different amazing people. I’ve spent too much of life pushing away the voices I didn’t want to listen to; now music is the way I give voice to all of the parts of me. I hope the music I put in the world helps you connect to the parts of yourself that you may be afraid to connect to. Parts that society says shouldn’t be there, but that everyone has. Hello all. My name is Ryan Sands. I'm a young, dynamic drummer from Connecticut with the aspirations of being one of the greats in modern Jazz music. As a musician, I prioritize feel, subtleties, and rhythm when I'm working. My style of play has led me to work with Phil Markowitz, Dominque Eade, and being a rotating member in the Christian Sands Trio. Currently mans the drum chair for the upcoming New York-based Free Improve collective, Altus, featuring David Adewumi, Isaac Levein, Neta Ranaan, and Nate Reising. For the last couple of years I've been leading my own trio, the Ryan Sands Trio, and this fall I'll be releasing my debut record, Standing on the Edge of Tomorrow. My main musical influences are Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band, Thelonious Monk, Bill Whiters, Tyler The Creator, and Organized Noize. I'm a clarinetist, keyboardist, singer, producer, songwriter, and composer. Since graduating from the University of Ottawa with a BMus and Minor in Arts Admin, I've co-produced, performed locally, and have been on several tours across Canada with my main musical projects Pony Girl, mal/aimé and Orchidae. Hey, I'm a Youtuber and Podcaster of Audio & Music Technology and I love composing tracks. I'm super passionate about the future of music and music technology hence I use YouTube and the Podcast as an outlet to help inspire others in the studio. I've worked in radio all of my working life so I'm very good with radio and show production. I've written music for the Bold and the Beautiful US TV Drama and my music has also been featured in a Rimmel Makeup TV commercial. I've also had heaps of my music in radio commercials and online marketing. My favorite memory of recording someone famous is Keanu Reeves in his hotel lobby, he asked me what I was using and I told him it was Protools, he thought it was really impressive lol. I've worked with some pretty big Australian artists too but they probably not known very well worldwide. My musical strengths would be writing super catchy hooks, mixing and vocal mixing is also my strengths.
