As a session drummer with a home studio, I'm always set up and ready to record drum tracks for your songs in a variety of styles from rock, blues, soul, country and pop.... even disco. Fast delivery, flexible and always open to discussion about your needs for the song. Over the last 35 years I've worked as a versatile, freelance drummer on many live gigs across the USA and studio sessions in the Atlanta and Nashville area, playing styles ranging from Modern/Indie/Classic Rock, 60's Soul, Disco, Pop, Blues, Folk, Country, Cartoon, Award Shows and Praise & Worship with up and coming local and regional independent artists and supporting national touring acts such as Steve Cropper from STAX and The Blues Brothers, Gary U.S. Bonds, Charlie Daniels, Travis Tritt and Randy Owen of the country group Alabama.

NYC Session and Broadway Drummer. Played 20 shows on Broadway, and developed many others. Recorded several Grammy award winning albums. Toured and recorded with Clay Aiken and other artists.

I have been a musician in the Austin area for almost 30 years, and my songs feature an eclectic spectrum of musical styles. I sing and play drums, bass, piano, guitar, and various other instruments. I've recorded multiple albums of solo material over the last 25 years, most of which have never been released until recently. I've played in numerous bands including More Cowbell, Proteus, the Flying Zippers, Sause, Carlton Pride and Zion, and Chris and Judy. Anyone who enjoys music will find something enjoyable in the diverse array of songs I've written and recorded.

Combining machine-like accuracy with jazz-influenced improvisational sensibilities, Richard Spaven’s drumming has landed him gigs and sessions with vastly varied artists such as producer Flying Lotus, Ninja Tune’s Jordan Rakei, electronica/jazz group the Cinematic Orchestra, vocalist José James, Guru of the hip-hop duo Gang Starr, Brainfeeder artist Jameszoo with The Metropole Orchestra, Drum & Bass mogul Goldie and legend to the dubstep scene Mala. Spaven’s brilliance is evident beyond his world-class performance abilities; he’s equally impressive in production and compositional territories. Most recently, the drummer released his solo album, Real Time, which once again showcases his multifaceted talent. Amongst his four solo albums guests have included Jordan Rakei, Stuart McCallum, Jameszoo and José James. Spaven also has noteworthy writing and recording collaborations with UK pianist Alfa Mist (as 44th Move) and BBC Radio 1 presenter Benji B.
