About Richard Spaven
Combining machine-like accuracy with jazz-influenced improvisational sensibilities, Richard Spaven’s drumming has landed him gigs and sessions with vastly varied artists such as producer Flying Lotus, Ninja Tune’s Jordan Rakei, electronica/jazz group the Cinematic Orchestra, vocalist José James, Guru of the hip-hop duo Gang Starr, Brainfeeder artist Jameszoo with The Metropole Orchestra, Drum & Bass mogul Goldie and legend to the dubstep scene Mala. Spaven’s brilliance is evident beyond his world-class performance abilities; he’s equally impressive in production and compositional territories. Most recently, the drummer released his solo album, Real Time, which once again showcases his multifaceted talent. Amongst his four solo albums guests have included Jordan Rakei, Stuart McCallum, Jameszoo and José James. Spaven also has noteworthy writing and recording collaborations with UK pianist Alfa Mist (as 44th Move) and BBC Radio 1 presenter Benji B.
