About Christopher Hopkins

A piano is like a ouija board. When I sit down at it, my hands and brain have a conversation I'm not invited to! I can write six different styles in an hour and it's always a surprise what comes out. The average time to write something is under five minutes. Lyrics is my weakest link. Music is truly the easiest part. I am the Elton in need of a Bernie, most of the time. I don't usually set out to do anything in particular. A sound, a phrase, a nuance, can all have an impact and trigger the creation of something new. Sometimes I steal from myself to create a new piece if that idea works. However, I usually reverse it, invert it, or create some sort of variation thereof and it's just a passage or arpeggio. I don't tend to repeat myself either, unless writing a complete score.
