Orphy Robinson

I am an award winning multi-instrumentalist, specializing in Tuned Percussion. I am one of the few UK musicians to have recorded albums on the legendary USA Jazz label “Blue Note” Records. I have played on over 100 recordings and across genres in a 40 year career. Won/nominated for numerous awards, including winner of 2017 Jazz FM "Live Performance of the Year" Award,. In 2018 awarded an MBE for services to music. A founder member of the Influential 1980s Jazz Warriors Big band. Written music for Film, Documentary and Television. Performed on BPI certified Platinum,Gold, & Silver recordings. My tours and production credits include a host of top names across many genres these include featured soloist and co- producer of Leading Classical music violinist Nigel Kennedy, Iconic soul vocalist Carleen Anderson. Session work inc Joss Stone, Robert Wyatt, Courtney Pine, Dr Robert.Don Cherry, Mica Paris, Kate Havnevik, Hugh Masekela, Manu Dibango. Thurston Moore. Trustee/Board member of the Ivor's Academy & National Youth Jazz Orchestra. Numerous Writing commissions have included Music for the UK Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, Contemporary dance includes a commissioned suite for the Phoenix Dance company, that represented the Uk at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games cultural Olympiad.. Commissions also include the Official Uk 2007 celebration of the bicentenary of the ‘Abolition of the Slave trade” and other commissions have included the Royal Opera House as well as writing for the legendary Balanescu String Quartet of celebrated Romanian Violinist Alex Balanescu. I am an external undergraduate Degree & Masters Examiner for the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
