My love affair with music and the piano never ends. But after two years chasing streams, playlists, likes and subscribers, I began to feel like the T-shirt I was selling instead of the song I had created. I love copyright. But copyright is not enough. A YouTube creator recently told me a copyright claim was affecting videos that had featured one of my songs for years. I wanted to give him permission, yet had no clear accounting of those uses or any royalties collected. That experience highlights why I’m building SpinStream™ and NFArtifact™: a permanent address, an Artifact Identification Number—an A.I.N.—and a continuing record that travels with the work.
