Satoshi Murai

About

Satoshi Murai is an artist, video director and musician born in 1983. His career as a musician began in his teens with a broken guitar and a cell phone that could program 16 Polyphony.

While studying graphic design and hand-drawn animation at an art university, Murai started musical activities with his friends. He also routinely added music and sound to his own animations and his friends' videos.

Later, Murai and his classmates founded TYMOTE inc., a graphic design and motion graphic collective. He learned firsthand the effects of music and sound in an array of media, from TVC, short films, documentaries, experimental videos by artists, to exhibitions and live performances.

After the dissolution of TYMOTE inc., Murai opened a new chapter as a contemporary artist, researching and practicing more primitive forms of expression. Notably, the creation and presentation of sound installations featuring roaring mountains. At the same time, he has established MURAIMURA MUSIC STUDIO. Murai continues to focus his energy day and night on thinking about and producing the experiences that music and sound can bring about in a variety of media. And besides all this, he enjoys having fun!

He also played in a hip-hop band called "ALT" but stopped in 2014 and has been working as a solo artist until now. His solo work is sometimes experimental and sometimes incredibly popular with synths, but since 2015 he has been using modular synths and performing solo and with other artists a lot. Recently he has been performing and releasing music as an IDM duo called "IQ3". Show less
