About JordanB Smith Jr
I love teaching, singing, and cooking. I started singing while attending the United States Naval Academy. Singing allowed me to cope with the stress of being a Midshipman. I was one of the first members of the Naval Academy Gospel Choir (1972-1976). My singing went dormant upon entering the Marine Corps until I was transferred overseas to Gotemba Japan. In Japan, I was introduced to Karaoke!. I had to sing in Japanese and often sang in a contest against native speaking Japanese. I continued to sing and even became a Karaoke host in southern California in 1990s. I won a Karaoke singing contest from KFROG radio in 1997. I became a KJ/DJ for 8 years before making a decision to become a public school educator. From 2004 until 2019 my singing was just a hobby. I occasionally made a Christmas Album for my wife's friends. Nothing formal. It was because of the pandemic that my singing has produced over 40 personal recordings in my home studio. I fell in love once again after losing my wife of 16 years due to cancer. Singing has helped to renew my life during COVID-19. Dr. Smith attended the United States Naval Academy during 1972-1976 and graduated earning a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1976. He was the first African American to become the Color Company Commander at the United States Naval Academy in June 1976. He is the author of three books Annapolis Creed, Facing Death Together, and Enduring Classic Recipes. https://amzn.to/2Ytw4AU
