About Jan Bones Gonscak
Jan Bones Gonscak is a multidisciplinary composer, theatre-maker, and poet whose work blends emotional precision with lyrical depth. Raised in Slovakia by a musical father and literary mother, he was immersed in sound and storytelling from childhood. A Master of Art graduate, he led his own theatre company for 14 years, known for merging music, movement, and narrative in boundary-pushing productions. He has collaborated with Slovak Experimental Radio and acclaimed composers on works for broadcast, stage, and installation. In 2015, disillusioned by political shifts and the looming war in Eastern Europe, Jan relocated to rural Australia. “I gave my songs to passing trains, the tracks kept time with my remains,” he writes—echoing the exile, rhythm, and reflection that infuse his music. His compositions range from deeply personal to client-driven, always rooted in honesty, atmosphere, and poetic form.
