About Squingy
Raised in the Wright household, Squingy grew up surrounded by music thanks to his father Wrighty, who ran a popular local sound system. He later explored DJing and rapping at school, eventually buying a two-deck CD mixer and mic to practise at home. Frustrated by the lack of opportunities for young artists, he founded Suspect Ent in 2004. In 2005, the label dropped its debut mixtape, Under Surveillance Vol 1, an instant street hit. The video for lead single "North West Reppin'" racked up millions of views online, at a time when internet video wasn't yet mainstream. Buzz grew fast, and after Under Surveillance Vol 2, Squingy launched his solo CD/DVD, Wrighty's First Son, complete with mini videos for every track, selling over 5,000 copies independently.
