About Kalo Are-tis-tik
Kalo Aretistik is a Canadian producer and musician with a deep foundation in analog sound and self-taught creativity. Starting with piano and guitar, he found his way into DJ culture in the ‘90s, building his own setups and recording original cassettes under the name DJ Trek. His early releases and live shows helped shape Saskatoon’s underground scene, leading to the creation of the group Lyr-x-ist, and performances that packed iconic local venues. Kalo’s music has evolved alongside changing tools and eras—from vinyl to digital, from hip-hop roots to layered instrumental compositions. He’s contributed music to film, worked with national broadcasters, and collaborated with artists across Canada and beyond. Today, his work explores a more experimental and instrumental direction—drawing from IDM, ambient, and darker tones. With a focus on movement, tension, and space, his newest release NO SURFACE represents a shift toward minimal, mood-driven production without relying on genre labels.
