About Jason Kick

CINEMA OF SOUND. headphone magic. harmonic possibility. harmonic perfection. the classic meets the future. keep it fun. I've produced and engineered some amazing records, including "Homage" by Mild High Club which at the moment has 108,909,413 plays on Spotify (and other millions for the whole album's tracks), so some people like what I do, including Tyler the Creator who said that was his favorite album that year. And over a dozen other artists with thousands of monthly listeners, including my longtime band Maus Haus, and new Sub Pop artist Marinero's album Hella Love, which I produced, engineered, and mixed. I've worked on over 50 LPs and a bunch more that have yet to come out! I'm a musician who's toured. I have scary deep nerd knowledge of 20th century pop music. All about having fun too... I am an experimenter (disciple of Eno), a synth geek (disciple of Delia Derbyshire, Kraftwerk, YMO), recording nerd (Geoff Emerick!), & deep into cinematic production (Kate Bush!) hypnotic grooves (Can!) and next-level chord progressions and unique arrangements (big fan of Joanna Newsom, John Coltrane, Jobim, Prince, Gershwin, Stevie Wonder, Stereolab, Van Dyke Parks). I like to cut groovy jazzy drum loops & imitating Steely Dan production (again see the Mild High album). I like to sample, time stretch, pitch shift, reverse things into whole new worlds. Some say I'm magician, or my friend Jack says that "I know how to do very bad, dangerous things" but I try to use that magic for forces of good. I've worked with a few hip hop artists but want to do more way more, with artists with the right vibe. I've got about 50 beats waiting to get rapped on--psychy, funky, jazzy. I'm into co-producing with artists to help them achieve their dreamiest sound. I generally gravitate towards collaborating with solo or duo songwriters where I kind of jump into the band and suggest cool arrangement ideas, harmonies, sounds, percussion, string arrangments--maybe we replace the bassline and drum beat. Unless they're perfect of course. I also could simply mix your album, I've done that too but all that other stuff is pretty fun. Can do zoom, or travel, host or a little of all of that. If I like your songs, I'll work with you.
