Bass player, mixing engineer and producer based in Montreal. On bass selection: from Standard to esoteric I’ve got you covered. Fender Precision into an Ampeg B-15 with Fet 47 microphone and direct line, recorded through an API preamp and API compressor, is great standard. It is deep, organic, punchy and sits in the mix perfectly. Other sounds: A Gibson hollow-body bass, a Fender Mustang, a Rickenbacker, a Jazz Bass, A slapped or picked Music Man, Synth bass, Fuzz bass, a Spector or Steinberger... No problem! Great bass tone is my thing. Effects: I’ve extremely lucky to have worked with thousands of artists in effects selection to craft the sounds that inspired their next song. If you can dream of the sound, I'll generate it. Mixing: Today I use Universal Audio plug-ins. In the past I've recorded with Neve and SSL consoles, used all the outboard gear, recorded to tape. So that sound is in my DNA. Mixing in the box allows me to make revisions more quickly, work on multiple projects simultaneously and work from anywhere. I do miss the days of being in downtown studios, Mixing on SSL consoles, (...but not that much.) The results from mixing in the box today 100% using plugins at home with my monitors, are as good or better. But more importantly it’s simpler to modify older projects and work when I’m inspired. Tracking: I still like old School tracking. Live performance through tube microphones and live instruments, as much as possible, is my preference) (depending on the genre) editing as sparingly as possible. I believe in honest, live, emotional human performance. Sequencers are great (when appropriate) and I love locked in tracks, but if it can be performed by a human, the results are usually much better. I am a stickler, and I work with solid players with high standards. On guitars: I've worked with dozens and dozens of vintage and boutique guitar amps and cabinets. From amp settings to miking techniques to pedal & amp combinations, Real-world reaping or Kemper Profile or VST, I can help your guitar tracks sit just right. I can do acoustic tracks, funk or pop rhythm guitars, top-line hooks, ambient guitars, rock riffs, and synth-guitar. If you need a referral for a specialty session musician, I can recommend plenty and host and run the session to get the best tones and performances, while tracking the session Live or by re-amping. Or in a remote session. Keyboards: I'm a sound designer so programming classic analog synths patches is my specialty. I program patches on MOOG grandmothers, MOOG Phatty or the MOOG ONE or VSTs. Or vintage Roland analog poly synths ( the JX8p is my current coups de cœur) Synth bass: MIDI, or Analog Moog-bass, Roland GR-77B Synth bass or Roland Gr300 synth guitar lines & pads for pop, indy, industrial, or soundtracks. maybe you need to double a track that's already been laid down. Maybe you're producing a band and need a ghost to replace the existing tracks... Doable Partnership: A partner to help carry the project forward who can keep the big picture in mind. I have a degree in both Music and Economics. I am always gigging, recording, and touring. I ran an SSL-equipped studio and a Tone boutique downtown Montreal. I've been a national brand manager (Zoom) and franchise development manager. I understand that you have constraints, budgets, and that you may not know exactly what you want until you've heard it, but you still have deadlines. You need a partner. Art: You're an artist. You're a composer. Your a singer songwriter wondering what to do next. You’re a filmmaker or brand manager. You want to realize your vision. You need your recording project to move three steps forward. I get it. That's what I'm here for. Let's do it then decide to do it again. Project after project.

I have been involved in the music industry for 12 years, starting as a session musician for large festival and studio productions, then later holding various roles in business and management. I've held positions in artist management, music journalism/TV production, teaching, and multimedia product management for international brands. I have also sat as a board member for a non-profit, as well as an artist collective, and incorporated a performance group in 2011 that I helped run for 3 years. I've placed music on radio and in Hollywood movie trailers, worked with Juno award winning artist "Pomo", recorded and produced in Bryan Adams' studio "The Warehouse", and have organically grown streaming accounts beyond 1 million plays per year. My coaching and artist development has led to record label deals, synchronization opportunities, and collaborations with major artists and producers. I've received the VCC Music Entrance Award, VCC Music Jury Award, Warwick Business School Scholarships, and sponsored attendance to the McGill Executive Institute in Effective Leadership. Notable performances: - Montreal International Jazz Festival - Ottawa Bluesfest - Vancouver Folk Music Festival - Shambhala Music Festival - North by Northeast (NXNE) - Pop Montreal Notable organizations I've worked with: - The Feldman Agency - RipTide Music Group - Nimbus Recording School - The Warehouse Studio - Mike Moloney Entertainment - Bell Fibe TV (TV1) - FACTOR - The Vocalist Magazine Featured in/at: - The Georgia Straight - BeatRoute Magazine - LaSalle College, Panel Judge and Guest Speaker - HipHop Vancouver I offer a variety of writing, marketing, and coaching services to help refine your image, sound, and artistic vision. My work is catered to your unique goals (which we establish and clarify together), with the ultimate goal of strategically positioning your artistry in the market for a sustainable career. I've been both an artist myself, music industry professional, and corporate manager, and so my services blend these experiences to provide my clients with a well-rounded and holistic approach. Nothing brings me greater joy than facilitating the self-discovery process within an artist, unblocking them creatively, and selling their unique brand offering to the world. I firmly believe that artists deserve to be supported in order to launch and sustain a career. Artists should not be expected to be business professionals, and should not feel like they are alone on that front. In addition, I am sensitive to the financial limitations of various artists, and so I strive to give my best work for a discounted price here on the LANDR Network platform. Successful artists who I have known and worked with throughout the years invested in their own self-discovery, and built structure around that authenticity in order to stay consistent in the pursuit of their goals. We can work on all of that together: - Writing services strengthen and articulate your unique mission and purpose, communicating your "best self" to fans and industry professionals. - Marketing services get your music heard and your brand recognized, and may include the assembly of a team to maximize results. - Feedback and consulting services give you straight, honest, and constructive feedback so that you can take ACTION on the information provided to you. - Coaching services ensure you are focusing your efforts in the right places and that you retain the mental fortitude to fulfill your dreams. My framework is designed to focus on your unique journey, and to bring out hidden talents that develop you further as an artist.

I'm an engineer, drummer and percussionist who's worked with the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra and The National Art Center Orchestra, Capital Brass Works, along with many other bands and ensembles. I made the move to Montreal as a drummer and audio engineer in 2011 and became a full-time freelancer. I've toured extensively throughout 2013, and since returning to Montreal I've been working mainly as a recording and mixing engineer. I had a chance to work on 2 Felix winning albums, with Alex Desilets, Windigo and Laurence Jalbert, Ma Route, and was recently recording engineer for the Juno and Canadian Folk Music Award-nominated album Hapax, by the band Oktopus (who I now play drums with). As for the genre of music that I work on, I don't necessarily decide that for myself, but it gets determined by the projects I get hired to work on. I like music that's been well-honed, and the importance of the genre for me is secondary to that. I find the music itself tells me where to take the sound, and by having good communication with the artist/s we can make sure we're thinking along the same lines, plus I get to learn what the artist hears/has in mind. When I do work on a new genre, I like to find new tricks that associate with that genre, but I also have a bag of my own tricks that I can bring to the table, which helps me bring a different light to a common sound.

Splitting time as co-owner of Freq Shop Recording Studio as well as touring the globe as the drummer of The Damn Truth, my experience and knowledge spans nearly two decades as a professional musician, record producer and mixing engineer. I've made records with The Damn Truth, We Are Monroe, Olivier Couture, Mountain Dust, and Storry. I've also worked alongside Juno-winning producer Jean Massicotte, Grammy-winning mixer Tchad Blake and rock legend David Bottril. As an engineer I approach record making with a focus on musicality, dynamics and feel, and can always be a hard hitting thunderstorm on drums. Betting on character and individuality, I always try to respect and maximize the distinct nature of the artists I work with. www.thefreqshop.com www.thedamntruth.com
