I’ve worked for more than three decades in the arts, as a musician, an educator, an author and an artist. I’ve worked on three records nominated for Juno awards; published multiple books with Bloomsbury and Oxford University Press, among other notable imprints, on the subject of popular music and record making, one of which currently resides in the Reading Room of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; and I even won a Governor General's medal in 2006, at only 28 years of age, for my PhD research in the area of record production and media ecology. Since then I’ve been an associate professor of popular music studies at Western University, in London (Ontario), teaching primarily songwriting and project paradigm record production. I have always been an avid fan (and maker) of collage. I’m totally fascinated by the weird brain states the medium provokes in viewers, as the obviously mass produced print ephemera of disposable consumer culture assembles to create totally new and unique visual experiences.

I am an Ableton Live expert who is working at two major electronic music schools in London, teaching and developing courses at BA degree level. I am also a producer and live performer with over twenty years experience working across many underground electronic genres. I am used to giving detailed and constructive feedback as an everyday part of my high-level teaching role. However, never feeling fully embedded in the Jazz world, I quickly went onto the session musician circuit, playing for high profile artists such as Stormzy and Jordan Rakei. I'm a London-based composer, multi-instrumentalist, sound designer and improviser. Classically trained violinist and pianist who writes music for a range of media, including games and films, and has collaborated as a session musician with bands like Super Furry Animals. My solo work juxtaposes a variety of genres, regularly blending ambient/electronic textures with the subtleties of minimalism, jazz, experimental, folk and more. My composition, ‘Pandemonium: Music for Parakeets’, part of a cross-disciplinary project with artist Christie Swallow, is currently being exhibited at The Design Museum, London, as part of the ‘Artificial’ exhibition, until mid-September.
