My name is John Gray, I'm a professional upright and electric bassist, guitarist, composer and producer. I am a jazz musician by trade, but I have experience working with world class classical, jazz, broadway, rock, pop and singer-songwriter artists. I'm available for remote recording on bass; I am a very versatile musician who can play just about any style on the upright bass (bowed or pitz) or electric bass (4 string, 5 string or fretless). I'm a Korean-Canadian musician and engineer based in Brooklyn, NY. I have been playing and mixing (touring/venues/studio) full-time professionally for 10 years. While I gravitate towards the soulful side of music with personal projects, I love listening to and working in varying specific genres like celtic folk, ambient instrumentals, hip-hop, death metal, classical, and generally experimental music. I also love post production work like ADR, foley, and fx.

Influenced by Bay Area and Houston culture I inherently blend hip hop, R&B, Trap, and Soul to create a unique sound. My melodic rap style and captivating hooks will lure you into memoirs ranging from love and heartbreak to street hustle and success. Although singing and songwriting are my focuses, I have also co-produced a majority of my catalogue within the duo group CATCHAFLIGHT, featuring my long time best friend, J Skyyler. My artistic background in the fine arts allows him to be more hands on with the image he portrays as a musician. Using watercolors, I paint an image as vibrant as my instrumentals to create each of my cover arts. I have opened up for the likes of Rae Sremmurd, Kid Ink, IAMSU, Rayven Justice, Berner, and 2 Chainz.

I'm a songwriter, vocal coach, producer, and session singer based in Brooklyn, NY. I work out of recording studio Creekside Sound in Gowanus, Brooklyn where I frequently collaborate with writer/producer Mike MacAllister. I am currently signed to Kobalt Music, and also teach Songwriting at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. I'm on the faculty at New School University, teaching voice in the Jazz and Contemporary Music department. I made my television debut on Saturday Night Live where I performed with Ellie Goulding and followed that up with a performance on David Letterman with St. Vincent. As a writer, I have had my songs featured in many advertisements, film trailers, video games, and TV & Film. Some placements of note include the Entourage Movie film trailer, the film Eighth Grade, advertisements for Diet Coke, Lexus, Haagen Dazs, Nike, Old Navy and TV shows Grey’s Anatomy and Shameless. I co-wrote and produced Donna Missal’s viral single “Keep Lying”. As a vocal coach and producer I have worked with Joey Bada$$, 070 Shake, Rachel Platten, Enisa, Mothica and Tanners. I'm the lead singer of Brooklyn based electro pop band Clementine and the Galaxy and retro rock group Ethel and the Chordtones. I received my Masters degree from New England Conservatory of Music in Jazz Performance and a BA from the University of New Hampshire in Composition. I'm a member of SAG/AFTRA and AFM.

I'm a NYC based touring/session drummer, percussionist and vocalist. Over the last twenty five years I've been on numerous world tours and enjoyed the experience of playing and recording with many talented artists of varied genres. Some of those include - Norah Jones, Boz Skaggs, Valerie June, The Autumn Defense, Joseph Arthur, Greg Dulli and many others.
