After obtaining a Bachelor's degree from McGill University, Ken pursued a full time music career. Starting with guitar performance for off-Broadway musicals in New York (NY) and in Montreal (QC), his career quickly gained traction. He continued performing on guitar, voice, percussion, keyboards and bass for many events such as: opening act for Mumford and Sons, Jazz Fest, 4 sold out Metropolis with the Franklin Electric, and Osheaga main stage. As a musician, in the last three years alone, he toured in over 18 countries with The Franklin Electric (Juno nominated), Patrick Lehman (Juno nominated), and others with roles in guitar, keys, vocals and bass. In addition to tours, he has performed across multiple nationally televised and broadcasted venues including: The Bachelorette Canada, ABC (national Australian radio), Canada AM, Radio Eins (Germany's premier radio), Qmusic (Danish T.V.), and Inas Nacht (German television with over 3 million viewers). Beyond performance, Ken has arranged (bass and guitar) on many records including Patrick Lehman's 'Buthcy's Son' (Juno nominated) and The Franklin Electric's 'Blue Ceilings'; 'In Your Head', and 'In Your Heart’. This initial experience has motivated a deeper commitment toward writing and arrangement for artists across North America across a range a styles that go beyond Ken’s original experience in country music. In particular, these genres now include folk, indie, pop and rock artists. Ken directly attributes this versatility in style to the successful production since 2018 alone of E.P.’s and singles for Velvet Black, Allison Fortier, Emilie Skahan, Lia, Delta Creek and many other Canadian and American artists.

Matt Gerhard is a Producer/Engineer/Multi-Instrumentalist based in Austin, TX. Matt is the Co-Owner of Hen House Recording and the Staff Engineer at Public Hi-Fi Studios. Over the past decade I have had the pleasure to work with artists like Spoon, !!!, Tennis, Future Islands, and Knife in The Water. As well as many leading producers including Jim Eno, Joe Chiccarelli, Charlie Sexton, Steve Berlin, Jack Lawrence, and Rick Hart. Q&A Q: Analog or digital and why? A: Most mixing projects lately are a combo of the two. I mix in the box and print outboard gear and effects. Then the mix is printed through my API 8200 summing mixer. I would love to do more all analog tape sessions, because it's a fun and different workflow but realistically the budgets and time constraints are limited. Q: What do you like most about your job? A: Getting to work with all kinds of people and personalities in many different styles of music. I think that really keeps me fresh. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do? A: That mixing and mastering is magic and everything can be fixed. Don't get me wrong a lot can be fixed, but there is no substitute for great source material. The job of mixing and mastering is to enhance the song. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients? A: What direction do you want the mix to go? On a 1-10 scale, 1 being pretty close to the rough mix but a little more polished/hi-fi or 10 pretty unrecognizable from the rough mix? Q: Can you share one music production tip? A: Listen! Be fearless and experiment. Turn that delay all the way up maybe it'll work, maybe it won't? You don't know unless you try. Also don't be afraid to kill your darlings. Q: What type of music do you usually work on? A: All kinds, thats my favorite part of the job Q: What do you bring to a song? A: Fresh ears and a new perspective Q: What's your typical work process? A: For mixing, I try to learn as much about the song as I can. I have a detailed conversation with the artist and try and get an idea of the vision for the song before I start. A rough mix is always helpful I listen to that a couple of times and right down my ideas and notes. Once I feel like I'm at a got place with the mix I'll send it to the artist for notes and then revise based on any notes they have until they're happy with the mix. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you? A: Oh boy, lots of people. I really love people like Tchad Blake and Dave Fridmann who are making wild sounds you've never heard before. As well as folks who came up more in the "documentarian" engineering world. People like Sam Phillips, Tom Dowd, Steve Albini who are trying to capture the performance in the room. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients. A: Mixing, Mastering, Editing.

As a guitarist and bassist, I have had the privilege of touring with many bands and artists including Norah Jones, Daniel Johnston, Bedouine, Ben Kweller, Jonathan Wilson, The Redwalls and Alberta Cross as well as playing with members of The Grateful Dead and Phish. I've been playing music since I was four and there is nothing that I love more. Making music with people who are creative and strive to push themselves is something I will always crave. My favorite kind of music is made when talented musicians are using their intuition. This tends to happen in the first handful of takes. I like the spontaneity and the commitment to that moment. It's why I love working with tape (obviously this can happen in the digital world as well). In saying that, I'm always up for spending as much time necessary to get the right take. I am very experienced in digital comping and splicing tape. I've had the honor of working with a lot of different artists and am well-versed in many genres. I like learning new things and am always open to surprises that happen during recording. I enjoy helping artists with songwriting. If you're stuck on something, I'd love to add a fresh perspective for the song to take an interesting turn. I pride myself on bringing a friendly, open-minded and organized approach to my work. My main goal is to make it fun and to have the artist be psyched about their recording! Canadian-born, Brooklyn-based guitarist, producer, and beatmaker. My influences and styles are vast, ranging from jazz, hip-hop, blues, folk, rock, funk, soul and electronic music. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Guitar Performance from McGill University. I’ve worked, toured, performed, written and recorded with numerous artists such as Lauryn Hill, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jon Batiste, The Weeknd, NAS, Billy Porter, Quiñ, The Roots, Andra Day, Antonio Sanchez, Tony Allen, Femi Kuti, and Bokanté. In 2015, I collaborated with Brooklyn native singer/flutist Melanie Charles on a project called “Rat Habitat”; a mix of electro/soul/indie rock. Our co-produced EP "Guns That Shoot Bubbles" was released in May of 2015, and has gotten many powerful reviews on internationally recognized online blogs such as Okayplayer, AfroPunk, Soulbounce and Ebony. Past production releases include Canadian songstress Sarah MK’s album “Worth It” which received the “Editors Pick” at the 2011 world renown “Montreal International Jazz Festival” My debut release as a leader, entitled “Dreams”, is a tapestry of colors and moods; a blend of electronic/indie/beat/jazz influences. The album showcases my skills as a producer and beatmaker, and while not a guitar heavy featured project, manages to fuse many of my musical influences into one cohesive sonic vision. The album features several New York City musicians, notably veteran drummer Obed Calvaire, vocalist Mike “Maz” Maher, woodwind genius Sly5Ave, violinist Lisanne Tremblay, drummer David Frasier and multi-instrumentalist Jesse Fischer.

I’m an award winning engineer specialise in mastering. I have 10+ years of experience in the music industry. My clients include Warner Music & Netflix. I’ve worked with music producers such as Mark Dodson (Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne), Chuks Chiejine (BROCKHAMPTON) and Deni Lew (PJ & Duncan) as well as artists like Bree Runway (EMI), Daria, Seycara, PW Music and Viktoria Modesta. I love passionate musicians and helping them finalize their sound. Writing a song is the first step, making the production is the second and finishing it with an excellent mix and master is also crucial; without a decent sound nobody is going to listen to your music. As a professionally trained musician, I can connect with any kind of genre. I’m always looking for new opportunities to work with great musicians and take their sound to the next level. As a graduated film music composer I'm also writing music for some of the biggest trailer music labels in LA, such as Really Slow Motion, Glory Oath + Blood and JDM Music. Most of my music has been published by Warner Chappell and used in Netflix campaigns. I usually work on these tracks as a composer, producer and mixing engineer. Please listen to my audio samples, check out my services and let me know if you have any further questions. I hope we are going to work on one of your upcoming projects very soon.
