Born and bred in South London, singer song-writer JUST CHARLII has one overriding focus as an artist, and that is for her music to incite important conversations and help fuel positive change. A shy and introverted teenager, JUST CHARLII’s father gifted JC her first guitar at the age of fourteen which inevitably helped her make the first steps on the journey to pursuing her passion. She began to teach herself how to record and produce, and after high school the possibility of making a career out of her talents crystallised more and more in her mind as she began to upload her creations onto YouTube.

With 30+ years in the business, working for and collaborating with a multitude of commercially successful artists, producers, DJs, film composers and advertising agencies, I am always looking for fresh projects that challenge my audiophile mind. In my own studio, I usually write & produce in Ableton Live, and record, mix and master in ProTools. Happy in either environment, I sometimes use both concurrently via Rewire. I did a *lot* of remixing in the 90s and 00s, and still enjoy doing so. Leftfield and experimental sound design have always been favourites of mine, as well as composing to picture. Composition for TV advertising in New York, and collaboration on a number of feature films with the named composers brought plenty of sound to picture experience, and I taught Audio Post Production at Full Sail, Orlando. I spent the first 10 years of my career working at a studio privately run by dance/rock pioneers Apollo 440 in London. Now working freelance, I draw on all the knowledge and experience I gained working with countless singers/bands/artists/producers (both established and new) on all sorts of different projects. Mixing is not simply a technical procedure, it's a creative process. You can get a song sounding good a million different ways using all kinds of techniques but does it make the listener feel the way it's supposed to? I am a perfectionist. Even when I know "perfect" isn't something that's actually possible most of the time, that doesn't stop me striving to achieve that for myself and more importantly the artist I'm mixing music for. I've been playing flute since 1997. I have several degrees in music performance, and I have recorded on countless projects. I've performed in the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival, Ottawa and Montreal's Jazz festivals, and the Marciac Jazz festival. I have a lot of experience in knowing in the moment what a song might need, and being able to come up with new ideas that suit the vibe of the song. I came up learning heavy metal and classic rock guitar solos on the flute, and kept working with that and eventually switched to jazz, with a focus in improvisation. I also learned the sax shortly after, and I am able to play tenor, alto, soprano and Baritone, even at the same time!! I've studied with some of the best saxophonists in the world, including David Binney, George Garzone, Donny McCaslin and Dave Liebman. I also play clarinet, keyboards and percussion. I came up in a rich musical background so I am able to perform and interpret in many different styles, from pop to rock, to reggae, to jazz, to hip hop to even techno. I love playing different styles and fusing them together. I'm looking forward to being able to work together and recording on your tracks!!!
