As a session musician, I have worked with John Legend, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Bono, and Natasha Bedingfield, amongst others. As a Broadway musician, I am the original drummer for Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, Amelie, and most recently, Mean Girls. As a touring musician, I have toured with Carney, Klangkarussell, Cristian Castro, and others. My tv credits include guest drummer with The 8G band for Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Tonight Show, The Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, GMA, Good Morning America, and others. I also have released a solo record, entitled Morning Drone.

After years spent perfecting his craft as a guitarist for some of the most notable acts to come out of Staten Island's rich and diverse local music scene (Paul & The Tall Trees, Eamon, and many more), as well as becoming a fixture at various acoustic/open-mic showcases, singer/songwriter Sergio Napoletano has found his stride....and his band. With an enormous support group of musicians/friends, the band doesn't just play songs but creates atmosphere. As a live act, the band can go from light and airy to gritty and tight, sometimes trading in their sweet polished sound for a more clunky indie-rock vibe which often demonstrates the real strength of their music: concise, well written songs and undeniable musical chemistry.

Hello, I'm Robert L. Smith, an Oscar® and 2x Grammy® winning, Emmy® nominated Producer, Engineer, and Mixer. After 35+ years of working with the biggest names in music, my résumé reads like a who’s who of pop music.

I am a multi-style cellist, composer, videographer, and photographer originally from New York now based in Nashville, TN. With two classical music degrees under my belt and a wealth of experience improvising and writing my own music, I feel pretty comfortable in most musical settings, especially the Americana genres. When I'm not in the studio, I'm on the road with Country singer-songwriter Brandy Clark pretending that I'm an entire string section with a huge pedal board. I also have my own band called Oliver the Crow (whom NPR called an “inspired collaboration") and a string quartet called the Atwood Quartet. I've got a solo album coming out this fall with all my own compositions (also recorded right in my home!). Besides these current gigs, I've collaborated with trumpeter and composer Frank London of the Klezmatics and North Indian classical music tabla player Shawn Mativetsky. My playing can be heard on albums by bluegrass guitar virtuoso Billy Strings, the Call of Duty video game series, as well as dozens more major motion picture soundtracks and albums. My former folk duo, Bride & Groom, toured Canada and America extensively, growing a sizable audience. I use my wealth of musical experience in inform her work with other musicians in the realms of photography and videography. I have produced visual works for Sarah Jarosz, Molly Tuttle, Jillette Johnson, and more. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree and a Performer’s Certificate from Purchase College, State University of New York where I studied with Julia Lichten and a Master of Music degree from McGill University where I studied with Matt Haimovitz.

I was the guitarist and producer for Amusement Parks on Fire (V2, Invada) until 2011 Most recently I produced and/or mixed a number of songs for Sharon Van Etten including her most recent album "We've Been Going About This All Wrong", the preceding singles, "Porta" and "Used to it", I recorded her vocal for the Angel Olsen collaboration "Like I Used To" and produced, recorded and mixed their acoustic version also released as a single. A: Most mixing projects lately are a combo of the two. I mix in the box and print outboard gear and effects. Then the mix is printed through my API 8200 summing mixer. I would love to do more all analog tape sessions, because it's a fun and different workflow but realistically the budgets and time constraints are limited. Q: What do you like most about your job? A: Getting to work with all kinds of people and personalities in many different styles of music. I think that really keeps me fresh. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do? A: That mixing and mastering is magic and everything can be fixed. Don't get me wrong a lot can be fixed, but there is no substitute for great source material. The job of mixing and mastering is to enhance the song. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients? A: What direction do you want the mix to go? On a 1-10 scale, 1 being pretty close to the rough mix but a little more polished/hi-fi or 10 pretty unrecognizable from the rough mix? Q: Can you share one music production tip? A: Listen! Be fearless and experiment. Turn that delay all the way up maybe it'll work, maybe it won't? You don't know unless you try. Also don't be afraid to kill your darlings. Q: What type of music do you usually work on? A: All kinds, thats my favorite part of the job Q: What do you bring to a song? A: Fresh ears and a new perspective Q: What's your typical work process? A: For mixing, I try to learn as much about the song as I can. I have a detailed conversation with the artist and try and get an idea of the vision for the song before I start. A rough mix is always helpful I listen to that a couple of times and right down my ideas and notes. Once I feel like I'm at a got place with the mix I'll send it to the artist for notes and then revise based on any notes they have until they're happy with the mix. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you? A: Oh boy, lots of people. I really love people like Tchad Blake and Dave Fridmann who are making wild sounds you've never heard before. As well as folks who came up more in the "documentarian" engineering world. People like Sam Phillips, Tom Dowd, Steve Albini who are trying to capture the performance in the room. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients. A: Mixing, Mastering, Editing.
